How Does cPanel Hosting Function?

For your info, it's good to be aware that most of the cPanel hosting offers on the current web hosting market are provided by a very insubstantial marketing segment (as far as annual cash flow is concerned) dubbed hosting reseller. Reseller website hosting is a type of a small-sized marketing niche, which supplies a great quantity of different web hosting brand names, yet furnishing precisely the same thing: mainly cPanel web hosting solutions. This is bad news for everybody. Why? Due to the fact that at least 98% of the website hosting offers on the entire web hosting marketplace offer exactly the same service: cPanel. There's no difference at all. Even the cPanel-based hosting prices are alike. Quite identical. Leaving for those who require a top web hosting service virtually no other web hosting platform/web hosting CP choice. So, there is simply a single fact: out of more than two hundred thousand website hosting trademarks all over the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than 2 percent! Less than two percent, remark that one...

200k "hosting companies", all cPanel-based, yet uniquely branded

The hosting "diversity" and the web hosting "offers" Google reveals to us boil down to merely one solution: cPanel. Under hundreds of 1000's of different web hosting brand names. Imagine you are merely an average bloke who's not very well familiar with (as the majority of us) with the site making processes and the website hosting platforms, which in fact power the respective domain names and sites. Are you prepared to make your hosting decision? Is there any web hosting alternative you can pick? Sure there is, these days there are more than two hundred thousand website hosting firms in existence. Officially. Then where is the problem? Here's where: more than 98 percent of these 200,000+ different website hosting brand names in the world will offer you strictly the same cPanel hosting Control Panel and platform, branded in a different way, with literally the same price tags! WOW! That's how vast the variety on the current website hosting marketplace is... Full stop.

The hosting LOTTERY we are all part of

Simple mathematics shows that to encounter a non-cPanel based web hosting firm is a huge strike of luck. There is a less than 1 in 50 chance that a phenomenon like that will take place! Less than 1 in 50...

The positive and negative points of the cPanel hosting solution

Let's not be unfair with cPanel. At least, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was trendy and possibly answered most website hosting industry requirements. In short, cPanel can do the trick if you have just one domain to host. But, if you have more domains...

Negative Sign Number 1: A dumb domain folder configuration

If you have two or more domain names, though, be extremely cautious not to erase fully the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will call each new hosted domain, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domains are quite easy to remove on the hosting server, since they all are created into the root folder of the default domain, which is the very well known public_html folder. Each add-on domain name is a folder situated inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to delete the files of the add-on domains, please. Verify for yourself how terrific cPanel's domain folder system is:

public_html (here my-default-domain.com is placed)
public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain)

Are you becoming disorientated? We definitely are!

Disadvantage Number Two: The same mail folder structure

The email folder arrangement on the server is absolutely the same as that of the domains... Repeating the same mistake twice?!? The admin boys strongly increase their belief in God when coping with the electronic mail folders on the email server, hoping not to mess things up too irretrievably.

Disadvantage Number 3: A complete absence of domain management options

Do we need to bring up the complete lack of a contemporary domain manipulation platform - a place where you can: register/migrate/renew/park or administer domain names, modify domain names' Whois details, shield the Whois info, alter/set up nameservers (DNS) and Domain Name System resource records? cPanel does not include such a "contemporary" interface at all. That's a big disadvantage. An inexcusable one, we wish to add...

Inconvenience Number Four: Multiple user login locations (minimum two, maximum 3)

What about the necessity for an additional login to access the invoicing, domain and technical support administration platform? That's apart from the cPanel user account login credentials you've been already provided by the cPanel hosting service provider. Sometimes, based on the billing transaction system (especially tailored for cPanel solely) the cPanel hosting service provider is using, the enthusiastic customers can wind up with 2 extra login locations (1: the invoicing/domain name administration software platform; 2: the trouble ticket support menu), ending up with a total of three login locations (including cPanel).

Negative Side Number Five: More than 120 web hosting CP sections to get familiar with... fast

cPanel presents to your attention more than a hundred and twenty menus inside the web hosting Control Panel. It's a marvelous idea to get familiar with each one of them. And you'd better become acquainted with them fast... That's way too impudent on cPanel's side.

With all due appreciation, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel hosting firms:

As far as we know, it's not the year 2001, is it? Mind that one too...
